Every year the library offers summer reading programs for all ages. The program is designed to help promote reading during the summer months by providing children, teens, and adults incentives for reading and summer-long storytimes and book-based events.

Registration for 2010 going on now.

 
Party in the Park:

Saturday, June 19: noon – 2 pm
All Ages- Join us for our 3rd annual Party in the Park Kickoff event. Enjoy a moonbounce, tons of carnival-style games, crafts, facepainting, balloon animals, and more! If you want a lunch, PJ’s Hot Dogs will be selling food.


Toddler Storytimes:

Every Tuesday at 10 & 11 am
Summer storytimes for ages 1-3 will be held weekly June 22-July 27. Party Day is August 4. Listen to stories and “Make a Splash” through songs and hands-on activities. Sign-up at the library begins on May 17.


Weekly Wednesdays for Kids:

We’ll “Make a Splash” by reading books, singing songs, and doing tons of different activities. Sign-up starts May 17 to attend weekly events:
Ages 4-5 at 10–10:30 am
Ages 6-8 at 11—11:30 am
Combined groups: Ages 4-8 at 3-3:30 pm, 4-4:30 pm, or 5:30—6 pm

WIN PRIZES! Get a prize each week you read. And for every 3 books you read, enter drawing to win bigger prizes, like books, gift certificates, and more.
  • June 23: Oceans in Motion (all ages @ 10 am) Amazing Clark will bring fun activities to give kids a hands-on look at ocean life.
  • June 30: Catch a Wave
  • July 7: Bathtub Science
  • July 14: “Fish Tank Follies” Comedy Show (all ages @ 5:30 pm) Acting Up Theatre Company will be performing a comedy show. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to help the show start on time. All ages welcome.
  • July 21: Flip flop Art
  • July 28: Humor on the High Seas
  • August 4: Water World! End of Summer Reading Party! @ 11 am
If you can't attend the events, just sign up for our "Reading Only" program.
Pick up a reading log at the library, beginning June 19.

Weekly Tween/Teen Programs:


Ages 9-11 meets Tuesdays or Wednesdays 1:30-2:30 pm
Ages 12-18 meets Tuesdays 3-4 pm

Fill out a game card and enter drawings by reading books and attending programs. Prizes include Visa gift card, movie tickets, restaurant gift certificates, books, and more!
  • June 22 or 23: Game Waves
  • June 29 or 30: Water Art Attack
  • July 6 or 7: Dive In!
  • July 13 or 14: Rock the Beat
  • July 20 or 21: Pop Bottle Science
  • July 27 or 28: Seafood Candy
  • August 3: Water World! Teen Summer Reading Party! (all ages @ 2 pm)

Adult Program:“Water Your Mind!”

June 19-August 4
Fill out a game card by reading books and attending programs. Then sign-up to enter a drawing to win gift certificates, books, candy, and more. Reading program sign-up going on now.

Summer Reading Adult Events:
Please sign-up at the library for each of the programs.

Summer Smoothies:
Thursday, June 24 from 6-8 pm

Come make smoothies featuring lots of different fruits, and bring tips or your own favorite summer recipes to share. All supplies provided. Stay to play Wii games for adults and board games. Get entry into SRP drawing just for showing up.

Island Casino Murder Mystery Event:
Thursday, July 29 from 6-9 pm
Join us for an island-themed casino mystery night. Play casino games and try to solve a murder mystery. Attendees get to participate. Get your character info sheet starting on June 24. Get entry into SRP drawing just for showing up.

Recycled Necklaces and Crafts:
Thursday, August 26 from 6-8 pm

Make necklaces and crafts using magazines and other items you might find around your house. All supplies provided.

Congratulations to all our summer readers for reading so many books this summer. Here's a total of all those books read:
